Important Considerations
At Tsurugi Kenshin, we pride ourselves on the meticulous handcrafting of our products. Unlike machine-made items, each piece is uniquely crafted by skilled artisans, embracing slight variations that enhance its individuality. Please be aware that these characteristics are inherent to the handmade process and are not flaws. As such, we do not accept returns based on the following conditions:
In some cases, the manual process of repeatedly inserting and removing the hot blade from the handle may result in scorch marks, cracks, dents, or the presence of fine powder at the joint. These are not defects or damage, but are inherent to the handcrafted process. Please enjoy these unique characteristics as part of your knife's individuality.
I don't like the engraving. I would like to return or exchange it.
Each knife is individually hand engraved by skilled craftsmen. Due to this artisanal process, there may be variations in the visibility of the engraving, with some appearing faint or difficult to discern. These variations are not defects. In addition, the blade may not be perfectly centered on the handle; however, each knife is carefully inspected and selected by the craftsman to ensure it is safe for use.
In addition, the shape, appearance and color of the handles and sheaths may vary from piece to piece. These variations are due to differences in the timing of material procurement and the individual craftsman's techniques, ensuring that no two products have exactly the same appearance. Please appreciate these characteristics as the unique personality of each knife.
My knife has rusted. Can I return or exchange the product due to rust? How should I take care of it?
We regret that we cannot accept returns or exchanges due to rust. Please read the information below carefully and ensure diligent care and proper product storage.
Causes of Rust and Deterioration
All knives are susceptible to rust, depending on how they are handled. Knives with carbon steel blades, composite materials, or wooden handles are especially prone to rust and deterioration if stored in humid conditions or left with moisture and dirt on their surfaces for even short periods (approximately 10 minutes). Even knives made from stainless steel, which is inherently more rust-resistant, can still rust under the influence of chloride ions and other corrosive agents.
For example...
Although molybdenum vanadium steel is resistant to rust, it is not completely impervious. This is especially true after using the knife with seawater or highly acidic ingredients. It is important to wash the knife thoroughly with a neutral detergent and then dry it thoroughly with a dry towel. A characteristic form of rust on molybdenum steel is the development of pinhole-like spots, similar to tiny punctures made with a needle. Although this material is less susceptible to rust, it is not completely rustproof. Please handle it with care.
Prevention of Rust and Deterioration
To prevent rust and deterioration, it is crucial to consistently remove any moisture and dirt from both the handle and the blade after use. Properly cleaning, drying, and storing your knives in a dry environment will significantly enhance their longevity and maintain their condition.
Handling Instructions for Knives with Wooden Handles
DO NOT USE wooden-handled knives in a dishwasher or dryer. Heat shrinkage will cause the wood to deteriorate and crack, damaging the quality.
Products with carbon in the blade will also cause the blade to deteriorate.
While it is important to keep knives clean to prolong their life, washing them without overloading them is also essential. Failure to do so can result in poor sharpness from the food being cut, and depending on the season, it can also cause food poisoning due to the growth of bacteria. While cooking, wash the knife frequently for each ingredient and remove the water thoroughly before storing it carefully.
